Hi, I'm Kelly Chase, founder of 'Cause You're Special! I'd like to take a little time to tell you about our company and the reason why I started it...
In 1995 my husband and I were blessed with a beautiful baby boy. Less than a year later we were horrified to learn that he was allergic to just about everything that went into his mouth. Our precious baby had multiple, life threatening food allergies and additionally was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. My doctor advised me to put my son on a strict wheat-free gluten-free diet immediately. I can remember thinking to myself that I could make my son healthy again by simply just "keeping him off the wheat". No problem I thought. WRONG! Big problem!
I was shocked to find out that nearly everything in the grocery store either had wheat or gluten in it or was processed using some form of product containing wheat or gluten.. I literally panicked at the thought of my son not being able to eat! I was happy to find that my local health food store carried wheat free, gluten free products until I discovered that my son refused to eat them. I didn't blame him, some of these products were just not edible!
I decided that I would learn how to cook delicious and nutritious wheat free, gluten free foods from scratch. It wasn't an easy task. I spent the next two years studying food chemistry and experimenting with alternative gluten-free flours and baking products. After many long hours at school, in the kitchen and in my makeshift "laboratory" I came up with what my son and I considered some really great tasting wheat-free gluten-free food!
My Celiac friends who tried my baking mixes urged me to start making some for them to use at home. One friend was a marketing specialist at a large corporation. He suggested that I start my own company and share my mixes with others. "These are just too good to keep to yourself!" he told me. It hadn't occurred to me to start my own company, but with the encouragement and financial support of friends and family I decided to go for it!
In August of 1998 I began preparations for my new venture. In April of 1999 I formally opened 'Cause You're Special! for business. I chose this name because that's the answer I gave my son when he asked me why he couldn't eat and drink what the other kids did. He was so sad and felt so left out, especially at holidays and birthdays. This simple phrase brightened his day and seemed to always bring a smile to his face. He was more accepting of his condition when he knew that we thought of him as 'special', not just 'different' than the other kids.
Since then, 'Cause You're Special! has come a long way. Our gourmet baking mixes are available on the Internet and at health food, specialty and grocery stores across the United States and in Asia and Europe. Our growth has been mainly due to the kind words and recommendations of happy customers. We offer a quality product at a fair price and we treat every customer like a member of our family.
My goal when I started the company was to provide the best tasting, highest quality wheat-free gluten-free gourmet baking mixes on the market. With hard work and determination I think I've accomplished what I set out to do. All of my products use the highest quality ingredients available and are priced to provide exceptional value.
